World Ozone Day 2025: Protecting Our Earth’s Shield
Every year on September 16, the world celebrates World Ozone Day to remind us about the importance of the ozone layer. The ozone layer acts like a shield around the Earth, protecting us from the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun. Without it, life on Earth would be at great risk, as UV rays can cause skin cancer, harm crops, and damage ecosystems.
The theme for World Ozone Day 2025 is about working together to keep our planet safe. Many years ago, dangerous chemicals like CFCs and HFCs were widely used, which damaged the ozone layer. But under the Montreal Protocol, countries around the world agreed to reduce and phase out these chemicals. This global effort has helped the ozone layer slowly heal.
India has been praised as a model for climate action. The country has reduced harmful gases ahead of its targets and continues to run projects that support both ozone protection and climate goals.
On this Ozone Day, let us remember: protecting the ozone layer means protecting ourselves and future generations. Small actions like using eco-friendly products and spreading awareness can make a big difference.
