Viral Video of Waterlogging Outside Oberoi Mall Highlights Mumbai’s Monsoon Woes
Heavy rains in Mumbai brought life to a near standstill as several key locations were submerged under water. One of the most striking visuals came from outside Oberoi Mall in Goregaon, where floodwaters forced people to wade through knee-deep stretches.
The video, which quickly went viral on social media, showcased the hardships faced by common citizens during monsoon. Cars, bikes, and even buses were seen crawling through the flooded street, while pedestrians struggled to find their way through the water.
Local residents say this is not a one-off incident. “Every year during heavy rains, this area floods. Nothing has changed despite repeated assurances,” said a shop owner outside the mall.
Civic officials have cited the heavy intensity of rainfall as the immediate reason for the flooding but acknowledged that clogged drainage systems and rapid construction in low-lying zones worsen the situation.
The visuals have once again drawn attention to Mumbai’s long-standing struggle with monsoon flooding, sparking criticism of the city’s urban planning. With more rains predicted, authorities are on high alert, but residents remain wary, fearing more days of chaos ahead.
