Heavy Rains Devastate Mandi’s Chauhar Valley, Massive Property Losses Reported

The remote Chauhar Valley in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district has been badly hit by intense rainfall since last night. Situated in the Padhar subdivision, the valley witnessed widespread damage as flood-like conditions swept through several villages.

According to official reports, two panchayats—Shilhbudhani and Taraswan—have suffered the worst impact. The strong currents washed away six footbridges, one vehicle, a shop, and hundreds of bighas of fertile farmland. The damage is being estimated in crores, causing severe distress to local communities that depend heavily on agriculture.

Despite the large-scale destruction, authorities have confirmed that no loss of human life has been reported so far, which comes as a huge relief to the affected residents. However, the loss of infrastructure and farmland poses a major challenge for recovery in this remote region.

Rescue and relief teams are expected to reach the valley to assess the situation and provide assistance. The district administration has appealed to residents to remain alert and avoid venturing into waterlogged or flood-prone areas.

This incident highlights the increasing vulnerability of Himachal Pradesh’s hilly terrain to climate-related disasters. Experts suggest that improved flood management and resilient infrastructure are urgently needed to safeguard remote regions like Chauhar Valley.
