Silver and Stories: Modi’s Artistic Diplomacy Shines in Croatia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent trip to Croatia was marked by more than political discussions—it became a platform for promoting India’s cultural identity through the art of gifting.

In a warm exchange with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, PM Modi presented a silver candlestand handcrafted in Rajasthan. The piece reflected traditional Indian silver craftsmanship, with its ornate design and elegant form. Beyond its beauty, the gift symbolized enlightenment, hospitality, and the enduring flame of India-Croatia friendship.

Meanwhile, Croatian President Zoran Milanović was gifted a stunning Pattachitra painting, one of India’s oldest and most revered folk art forms. Originating from Odisha, Pattachitra is renowned for depicting Hindu deities and epics with fine brushwork and natural pigments. The gift served not just as a piece of art, but as a narrative—telling stories of Indian mythology, spirituality, and tradition.

These gifts are part of a larger trend in PM Modi’s diplomatic engagements, where handcrafted, regional Indian items are presented to world leaders. This approach helps amplify India’s cultural footprint globally, turning each artifact into a symbol of soft diplomacy.

As India deepens global partnerships, its heritage continues to play a key role—reminding the world that behind every handshake, there is a story of centuries-old art and identity.
