Ranbir Kapoor Gears Up for High-Octane Role in ‘Dhoom 4’; Ayan Mukerji Tipped to Direct

Bollywood’s action-packed Dhoom franchise is making a long-awaited return with a brand-new installment — and this time, it’s Ranbir Kapoor who’s taking the front seat. As per recent reports, Dhoom 4 is officially in the pipeline under Yash Raj Films (YRF), with the production house’s head, Aditya Chopra, personally involved in locking the script alongside renowned writer Shridhar Raghavan.

The New Face of Dhoom

After much speculation over the years about who would take the mantle from previous anti-heroes like John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan, and Aamir Khan, it’s now almost confirmed that Ranbir Kapoor will be leading the new chapter. Known for his versatility and brooding screen presence, Ranbir is said to have found the role perfectly tailored to his style and cinematic aura.

Directorial Reunion in the Works

In what could be another exciting development for fans, Ayan Mukerji — who has worked closely with Ranbir on hits like Wake Up Sid, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and Brahmāstra — is reportedly being considered to direct Dhoom 4. While final confirmations are pending, the possibility of a Mukerji-Kapoor reunion has sparked significant buzz in the industry.

Global Action Meets Bollywood Thrill

Unlike previous entries, Dhoom 4 is said to be aiming for global action cinema standards. Sources close to the project have hinted at high-concept sequences, state-of-the-art stunts, and a gripping narrative arc that aims to elevate the franchise’s cinematic legacy. This iteration of Dhoom will stand separate from YRF’s Spy Universe (which includes Pathaan and Tiger), establishing its own narrative identity and visual storytelling style.

Production Timeline and What to Expect

While the full casting and production schedule is still being finalized, the team at YRF is targeting an April 2026 start for principal photography. The extended prep time is reportedly to ensure the script and action choreography are meticulously crafted.

Ranbir’s Busy Slate

Besides Dhoom 4, Ranbir Kapoor is also set to appear in Love & War, a grand historical drama directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Co-starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, the film is expected to showcase Ranbir in a compelling and powerful role, adding another layer of depth to his career trajectory.

As Dhoom 4 revs its engines for a 2026 rollout, fans of the franchise and Bollywood action cinema at large can expect a fresh, electrifying experience. With Ranbir Kapoor’s charisma, Ayan Mukerji’s directorial finesse, and Aditya Chopra’s vision steering the project, Dhoom 4 could be one of the most anticipated releases of the decade.
