Jubilation Turns to Tragedy: RCB Victory Parade Ends in Deadly Stampede in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, June 4, 2025 — A day meant to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s historic IPL 2025 victory ended in grief and chaos as a stampede near the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium left 7 people dead and over 25 injured, several critically.

The stampede occurred during the team's official victory parade, which had drawn thousands of fans to the stadium and surrounding roads in the heart of Bengaluru. With RCB winning their maiden IPL title after 18 seasons, excitement was at a fever pitch, leading to an overwhelming turnout that eventually became unmanageable.

How It Unfolded

Eyewitnesses reported a massive crowd buildup by early afternoon, with fans climbing barricades, hoisting flags, and chanting in unison. However, the crowd soon became restless as access to the main celebration zone was restricted. As pressure mounted from behind, a wave of panic spread, triggering a stampede near the stadium's Gate 3.

Despite the presence of police and security forces, the situation spiraled out of control. Several people were trampled in the commotion. Some victims were caught underfoot for minutes before help arrived.

Emergency Response and Victim Support

Authorities rushed the injured to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital and Vydehi Superspeciality Hospital, where at least six remain in critical condition. Emergency response teams were seen administering first aid on site, while ambulances struggled to make their way through the congested streets.

Families of the deceased and injured have been offered support by local officials, and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reportedly ordered a high-level probe into the incident.

Political Fallout and Public Outrage

The tragedy has sparked a political war of words. BJP’s IT cell head Amit Malviya took to social media to blame the Congress-led state government for “utter mismanagement” and failure to control the crowd. Karnataka Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar admitted that the crowd was "uncontrollable" and hinted at gaps in planning and execution.

Citizens and activists have demanded accountability, calling the tragedy “preventable” had proper safety measures and crowd control systems been enforced.

Moving Forward

As Bengaluru mourns, calls for better planning, crowd management training, and stricter control over public gatherings are growing louder. What was supposed to be a unifying celebration for RCB and its fans has instead left a scar on the city's heart — a painful reminder of the price paid for poor preparation.
