Bridges in Battle: UAE Mediates Major Ukraine-Russia Prisoner Exchange

 In a significant development amid ongoing conflict, Ukraine and Russia executed a major prisoner exchange on May 6, 2025, with each country releasing 205 prisoners of war. This exchange, facilitated by the United Arab Emirates, marks the fifth such operation in 2025 and the 64th since the full-scale war began over three years ago.

The Russian Ministry of Defence also acknowledged the operation, confirming that its returning servicemen were taken to Belarus, where they received medical evaluations and psychological support. Russia’s human rights ombudsman, Tatiana Moskalkova, praised the efforts of the involved agencies and highlighted the emotional significance of the reunion for the soldiers and their families.
