PM Modi to Visit Sikkim on May 16 for Golden Jubilee Celebrations

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Sikkim on May 16 to mark the state’s golden jubilee celebrations, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced during the Assembly session on Wednesday. The visit will commemorate 50 years since Sikkim became the 22nd state of India on May 16, 1975.



A Historic Milestone for Sikkim

Chief Minister Tamang highlighted the significance of the Prime Minister’s visit, calling it a historic moment in the state’s political journey. “The PM's visit will be a landmark occasion as Sikkim celebrates five decades of integration into India,” he stated while presenting the state budget during the four-day Assembly session.

Development Projects to be Inaugurated

During his visit, PM Modi is expected to inaugurate several key development projects aimed at enhancing healthcare, infrastructure, and tourism in Sikkim. These projects include:

  • Namchi District Hospital – A new 500-bed facility aimed at improving healthcare services in the region.

  • Atal Bihari Vajpayee Statue – A tribute to the former Prime Minister, recognizing his contributions to the nation.

  • Sangachoeling Ropeway – A major infrastructure boost to promote tourism in the state.

Foundation Stones for Key Initiatives

The Prime Minister will also lay foundation stones for several ambitious projects that will contribute to Sikkim’s growth and sustainability. These include:

  • Golden Jubilee Convention Centre (Namli) – A state-of-the-art venue for national and international events.

  • Bhaleydhunga Skywalk – An innovative eco-tourism project designed to offer visitors a unique experience.

  • Nathula Border Tourism Development – A major initiative to enhance Sikkim’s appeal as a global tourism hub.

  • Singhshore Bridge – A key infrastructure project aimed at improving regional connectivity and boosting economic activity.

Sikkim’s Remarkable Transformation

Reflecting on Sikkim’s journey since its integration into India, CM Tamang emphasized the state’s remarkable transformation over the last five decades. “From a small Himalayan kingdom, Sikkim has evolved into a globally recognized model of peace, sustainable development, and economic progress,” he remarked.

“As we celebrate 50 years of statehood, we honor our past, recognize our achievements, and set our sights on a brighter, more prosperous future for the people of Sikkim,” he added.

The golden jubilee celebrations are expected to be a grand occasion, with PM Modi’s presence further underscoring the significance of Sikkim’s integration and progress over the years.
