Kohli Leads India to Champions Trophy Final with Victory Over Australia

India secured a place in the Champions Trophy final with a thrilling four-wicket victory over Australia, thanks to a masterclass from Virat Kohli, who scored 84 off 98 balls. Chasing Australia’s total of 264, India finished at 267-6, marking the highest successful chase against Australia in an ICC event.

Pace spearhead Mohammed Shami was instrumental in restricting Australia, taking 3-48 in his 10 overs on a sluggish pitch. Spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja supported with two wickets each, keeping Australia in check.

Australia’s Innings

Winning the toss and opting to bat, Australia struggled early as Shami dismissed opener Cooper Connolly for a duck. Steve Smith provided stability, top-scoring with 73 off 96 balls. Travis Head (39 off 33) and Marnus Labuschagne (29) built crucial partnerships, but India’s spinners dominated the middle overs.

At 205-6, Alex Carey provided late resistance with a 50 off 48 balls, hitting eight fours and a six. Australia crossed the 250-mark in the 48th over, but their total remained 20-30 runs below a par score.

India’s Chase

India’s innings started aggressively, with Rohit Sharma scoring 28 off 29 balls. Shubman Gill (8) fell early, but Kohli and Shreyas Iyer steadied the innings with a 91-run partnership. Kohli, striking five boundaries, reached his 74th ODI half-century off 53 balls.

Adam Zampa dismissed Iyer, but India remained in control. Axar Patel (27 off 30) and Hardik Pandya (28 off 24) played crucial cameos, while Lokesh Rahul sealed the victory with two fours and two sixes, remaining unbeaten on 42.

India Marches to the Final

With this win, India advances to the final in Dubai, where they will face the winner of the South Africa vs. New Zealand semi-final. Reflecting on the victory, Sharma stated, “The nature of this pitch doesn’t allow you to play your shots freely. We were clinical with the bat, and calm and composed in our chase.”

As India eyes another ICC title, Kohli’s leadership and India’s balanced squad look ready for the final showdown.
